I am 61 years old, married to Tina for 15 years, and have a 28 year old son, Hunter ,who is an active duty United States Army. I was born in Souix City, Iowa and grew up in Overland Park Kansas City. I received a BS in pre-medicine at Kansas State University and my medical degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. I completed a rotating internship in Dallas and received my board certification in 1990. How did I choose medicine for a career? When I was 12 yrs. old I hit a tree with my sled rupturing my spleen causing severe internal bleeding. The intern missed the diagnosis in the E.R. at the teaching hospital [they didn't have CT scans back then] but the old gray balding surgeon over the intern made an excellent clinical diagnosis and saved my life.I've tried my best to emulate him in my career.
